D is for DRIVE
Keep love and passion at the centre of everything you do in business.
Now for the fluffy stuff. You can scroll through Instagram and read as many typographic inspirational quotes as you like, but maybe it’s not really your “thing”. (We’ve banned the word “inspiration” here at Dream & Do!)
However, one thing is undeniable. And that is if your heart isn’t in it, you’re unlikely to succeed.
Jennifer Anson from Girls Getaways says: “When starting out in business, it’s easy to digress from what you start out to do, so I chose a product that I was passionate about, and stuck to it.”
At the moment, it feels like everyone is an entrepreneur. It’s easier than ever to start your own business, particularly with the growth of online culture and everyone being an “expert” in their chosen field. We can’t just get away with doing something for the sake of the money. We can’t just buy clothes from China and sell them for a higher price on eBay, for the purpose of a quick buck.
There needs to be purpose. There needs to be passion. You need to love what you’re doing, or you will end up hating it.
That’s not to say that you won’t have your days. We all do. Even Tara Shelton, who is committing her life to helping others who have a dream to make it a reality and DO, has her moments when she wonders what it all means and why the heck she’s doing what she’s doing?! It’s imperative to take time out, whatever that means to you, and reignite your spark, find your creativity and revisit your purpose.
Remember your WHY.
Our client, Glenn Livingstone from sustainable fashion start-up Identify Yourself, offers his final words of wisdom for anyone wanting to start their own business or follow their dreams:
“Listen to your gut and listen to your heart- They will ALWAYS tell you what the right decision needs to be.”
